National Development Team Over the last decade the PRFU have successfully started local National Development Team programs that focus on providing pathways to national team selection for local talent and brings sport into the lives of the people in the Philippines. The main focus of these programs is to give Filipino Youth the opportunity to participate and play and learn a new sport that instills the World Rugby Core Values: Integrity, Respect, Discipline, Solidarity and Passion.
The PRFU have recently implemented the World Rugby ‘Get Into Rugby Program’ (GIR) and have witnessed great successes in the juniors’ participation levels with over 7000 new players being introduced to the sport of rugby union since its inception in 2014. The overriding goal of the PRFU is to ensure that rugby becomes a popular and mainstream sport in the Philippines and to offer an avenue by where sport plays a positive role in the lives of all Filipinos.
The PRFU strongly believe having a platform of a successful national team will inspire local home ground talent to aspire to use sport as an avenue to not only change lives through sporting experiences but offer character values such as integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline, respect and national pride. The National Development team is an avenue for these local players to aspire to represent and ensures a pathway to selection to the Philippine Volcanoes.
This year Philippine Rugby will focus on two National Development Teams:
Philippine NDT vs Hong Kong Senior Warriors: Date: April 10 & 13
Philippine U19 NDT vs Hong Kong Junior Warriors: Date: August 21 & August 24
