After 12 weeks of rugby, this weekend will mark the conclusion of the 2019 JML Premiership Shield, the NCR Premiership Rugby Competition.
Eight men’s teams and four women’s teams have been battling it out each week for local supremacy. In the women’s division premier clubs the HMR Lady Eagles will face their rivals the Santos Knight Frank Mavericks in what looks to be the match of the day. Both teams have a number of national players who have just recently come off successful national team duties. The Eagles will be favourites after remaining undefeated through out the local season. The Lady Mavericks however will boast an experienced line up where the Eagles will have to withstand the pressure which a grand final day brings.
On the Men’s side the same two clubs will be fighting for supremacy. The Eagles RFC who remain undefeated will be up against the young Santos Knight Frank Mavericks. The Mavericks have been the most improved side this year, running in 4 out of 5 wins. A team heavily compromised of up and coming youth players have been able to step up to the challenge each week. For the grand final however they face a mammoth task against a stacked Eagles RFC who have been the competition favourites from the beginning.
“This year we have a seen an improvement in competition structure, it’s allowed for a more competitive based system across the league. The Mavericks will be looking to cause upsets in both matches. It will be an entertaining day this Saturday” shared Alex Menard, Competitions Manager for Philippine Rugby. Saturday’s grand final day will kick off at 10:00am, with two women’s matches and two men’s matches to be played at Southern Plains, Calamba. Entry is free.
